Ilkley members, Edward Cowan and Jack Lampkin both enjoyed a successful week in the Yorkshire Amateur Championship at The Moortown Club played from 9th – 11th August.
The starting list of 150 players played two rounds of strokeplay, with the leading 40 players making the cut for the final two rounds.
Unfortunately, due heavy overnight rain on Wednesday, the competition was reduced to three rounds.
In tricky weather conditions during the final round, Jack returned a five over par 76 which saw him finish in a tie for 21st place. Edward finished just a few shots further back in 33rd position. A very creditable performance by both players in a very strong field of Yorkshire’s best golfers.
The top 32 players from the Yorkshire Amateur Championship qualify for the Yorkshire Matchplay Championship, which will be played at Selby Golf Club from 18th – 20th September. Jack has secured his place in the Matchplay Championship and with Edward currently first reserve, in case of any dropouts, we are hopefully that both players will be participating in this event next month.
Congratulations to both players for their achievements this week.
